Day 45: Doubting Thomas
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 (NIV)
Doubting Thomas. The phrase lives on in our society today. And all because Thomas the disciple doubted his friends’ report of a risen Savior. If we were being honest, I would say that there are moments when we all have our doubts. We often have more in common with Thomas or Peter (denied Christ) than we would like to acknowledge.
But if you will permit me, I would like to focus on verse 20. This verse deals with how the disciples react when they first see Jesus.
Vs 20 “As He spoke, He showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!”
Filled with Joy! What a marvelous way of describing their reaction. If the cross and crucifixion were the low points in their lives, this certainly ranked amongst the top.
In the ongoing midst of this pandemic, how is your joy? It can be hard at times with everything going on in the world to focus on the joy.
I will leave you with this thought:
The same Savior who was raised from the grave and stood amongst the disciples then is the same Savior who is still risen and, on the throne, today. Friday might be here . . . but Sunday is coming.

Song of Reflection: King of Kings
And the morning that You rose
All of heaven held its breath
Till that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored
And the Church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this Gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel shall not faint
By His blood and in His Name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me
