Who was instrumental in your life in helping you to meet and/or follow Jesus?
God has used so many people over my 70-plus years to inspire me to be a follower of Jesus. But it all began with my mother. The daughter of a Christian Reformed pastor and church planter, she made sure faith was at the center of our family’s life. From Sunday School and worship and children’s choir at church to Bible stories and prayer at meals and bedtimes at home, I learned a lot about Jesus and received the foundation upon which I would later make my own decision to ask Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Other people – my wife, pastors and preachers, and godly men – would later encourage and challenge me to want to move from being a “Christian” to becoming a true follower of Christ. And many of them continue today to be God’s instruments in my walk with Jesus. But it was my mom who started me on that journey, and one of my most precious reminders of that is the Bible she and my dad gave me as a little boy.
