One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!”
Luke 17:15
Luke 17:15
Giving God the Glory
Jesus is entering a village on His way to Jerusalem when He comes upon a group of 10 men with leprosy. “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us,” they cry out.
And He does.
As the men go on their way, cleansed of the hideous disease that had isolated them from family, friends and normal life, one man – and only one – realizes that he has been healed and comes back, falls on his face at Jesus’ feet, and shouts for the world to hear, “Praise God!”
What happened to the other nine? They all called him “Jesus, Master” and pleaded for His mercy, so they clearly knew who He was. But did they not realize that the miraculous healing they received had come from the very hand of God himself? Or did they just take it for granted? We don’t know the answer to that, but we do know that the one who gave glory to God was commended for that with Jesus’ words, “Your faith has healed you!”
What about us? When we experience healing, or comfort, or strength, or forgiveness, or peace, or answered prayer or any other blessings, be they “big” or “little”, do we see the hand of God at work? Or do credit something or someone else – good luck, another person or maybe even ourselves? And when we do realize it’s God’s love, mercy and grace at work, do we simply take it for granted or keep it to ourselves?
Or, like that like one leper, do we come to Jesus, fall on our face at His feet, and shout for all our world of family and friends and acquaintances to hear, “Praise God!”?
