“And you, my little son,
will be called the prophet of the Most High,
because you will prepare the way for the Lord.”
Luke 1:76 (NLT)

Luke 1:76 (NLT)
These 42 verses seem to be about the birth of John the Baptist. More than half of them are song and prophesy. But these verses also tell the story of a first meeting. The first meeting of Jesus and John the Baptist.
The final prophet of the Old Testament and the Keeper of the New, the Savior of the World.
Luke 1 reads like a backstory for Luke 2, one of the most read and well-known passages in the Bible; the Christmas story.
So what’s our takeaway from Luke 1?
Anticipation.
Webster’s dictionary defines anticipation as “a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen” and “the act of preparing for something.”
Verse 41 says that the baby, John, leaped in his mother’s womb at the sound of Mary’s voice. Anticipation.
Zechariah’s song is filled with words of anticipation, feelings of excitement and preparation. Rescue, enable, prepare, guide, these are words of hope and anticipation.
Advent is all about anticipation. We know the purpose and joy of Christmas. It’s amazing! A day so great, the other days before it are all about anticipation, preparing us and calling out what’s coming. Just like John did for Jesus.
Listen to John.
Make Advent, this entire season, about preparing ourselves for Jesus and the glorious, unending celebration that comes with salvation.
