Day 21: Hard Hearts
He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” John 9:25 (NIV)
This devotional is going to be a little bit different from the others in that we are going to focus on two side points (aside from the bulk of the passage).
The first point that I would like to make is Jesus' claim to deity in verse 37. Some current teachings state that in the Bible, Jesus never claims to be God. There are several passages that refute this, but unfortunately, not enough believers know their Bible well enough to refute this lie. Consequently, some have been led astray.
The second point revolves around how this passage concludes. Jesus speaks with the blind man he healed but some Pharisees overhear Him and take offense. (Vs 39) Then Jesus told him, “I entered this world to render judgment – to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”
The Pharisees take offense because they believe themselves to be morally superior to the blind man who they consider to be a sinner. Truth be told, they are all sinners (but at least the blind man acknowledges it). We must be very careful today to not fall into the same trap.
We are all sinners. Christ is an all-sufficient Savior. But how much harder to save someone who doesn’t think they need saving . . .

Prayer Focus: Pray for those in your life who have hardened their hearts against God. Pray that their hearts would be softened with the Gospel.
