Day 26: A Choice to Make
Read John 12:1-19
Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.
John 12:18 (NIV)
John 12:18 (NIV)
Given today’s world view, it’s not surprising that in this scripture passage, a group of individuals from the same community and culture would approach their knowledge of Jesus’ life and miracles in polar opposite ways.
By many, Jesus was sacrificially loved, served, and worshipped through the anointing of oil, the wiping of his feet and the spreading of the gospel that he was the Christ, the long-awaited Messiah.
In the other camp, hardened-hearts prevailed in spite of undeniable evidence that Jesus was the Christ. Expecting a deliverer from Roman oppression, Jesus disappointed and called into question, Pharisaic teachings. Their egos bruised and priestly authority challenged, Pharisees plotted evil against Jesus.
Although many then and now would like to deny it, truth isn’t dependent on, nor does it change due to the will, thoughts, or whims of an individual or culture. Denying the evidence of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection doesn’t change the truth of his deity.
“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
